ETFBOOK has closed a €4M Series A funding round led by BlackFin Capital Partners, the European investment firm specialised in financial services.
The round is the first external capital the company has taken since launching in mid-2020, and will fund the next phase of product development and geographic expansion, including entry into the US market later this year.
From launch to 35 institutional clients
ETFBOOK was founded in Zurich in 2020 by Pawel Janus and Bartłomiej Igła, and today operates across London, Paris, Frankfurt, Amsterdam and Dublin. The platform delivers ETF data and analytics through a web application and APIs, covering the full ecosystem of firms that build, trade, service and use ETFs.
The company now serves more than 35 institutional clients, among them ETF issuers, index providers, fund service providers, market makers, exchanges and buy-side institutions. Few data providers serve both sides of the primary market as well as the firms that service it, and that breadth has been central to ETFBOOK’s growth since launch.
“We are very pleased to announce BlackFin Capital Partners as our first external investor.”
- commented Pawel Janus, Ph.D., Co-founder and CEO of ETFBOOK.
“This investment will accelerate the execution of our ambitious product roadmap and geographic expansion strategy, enabling ETFbook to better serve the ever-evolving data & analytics needs in the thriving ETF markets, globally.”
A specialist investor for a specialist platform
BlackFin Capital Partners invests exclusively in financial services businesses across Europe. For ETFBOOK, that sector focus mattered: an investor that already understands market data and institutional workflows brings more than capital to the table.
“As a finance-focused investor, we observe daily the strong tailwinds propelling forward the whole ETF industry.”
- said Romain Grimal, Senior Investment Manager at BlackFin Capital Partners.
“We have been impressed by the robustness of ETFBOOK’s platform as well as its founding team’s execution capabilities.”
Where the investment goes
The funding will be directed at three priorities: product development, including new AI-supported capabilities within the platform; expanded data coverage; and hiring across product, data science, sales and marketing to support a growing client base.
Beyond the product itself, the round funds ETFBOOK’s geographic ambitions. Having built its footprint across Europe’s main ETF centres, the company plans to enter the US market later in 2025
